From Dr Natasha Campbell McBride at the Weston A Price conference, London 2012

This is part 2 of the pregnancy and preconception articles, written by me, taken from notes at the Wise Traditions Conference by Weston A  Price foundation in March 2012. To see part 1 please click here.

**NOTE: These notes were taken by me, from the Weston  A Price conference in March 2012. These comments do not have studies attached to them. If references are what you seek, I have provided books and websites which you can visit in part 1.**

This article will cover the following topics.

DIET

BIRTH AND BREASTFEEDING

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES

DIET

  • Maternal diet predetermines gene expression in foetus.
  • Foetus takes a priority over the mother in nutrition during pregnancy.
  • Which is why teeth decay is common in pregnant mothers.

Deficiency in nutrients from the mother’s diet will affect the baby AND THE MOTHER in the following ways.

Deficiency inEffect on ChildEffect on Mother
FATEye, brain problemsPost Natal Depression
PROTEINPoor foetal growth
MAGNESIUMhyperactivityEclampsia

We have two types of foods. Animal and plant foods.

Food TypeFunctionExamples
AnimalFeeding/BuildingMeat, fish, eggs, dairy
PlantCleansing and detoxifyingPlants

  • Stick to natural fats
  • Not optimal, but VITAL to consume nutrient dense foods. Liver DAILY during pregnancy. If you are worried about the Vitamin A content of Liver, read this http://www.westonaprice.org/fat-soluble-activators/vitamin-a-vagary
  • Pre-eclampsia and eclampsia occurs as a result of extreme magnesium deficiency.
  • Sugar intake will increase the need for magnesium.
  • All animal fats
  • Use butter, ghee and coconut oil liberally (especially for cooking. that are saturated and therefore stable). You may also use palm oil.

use ghee and coconut oil liberally

  • Use cold pressed virgin olive oil. Never heat it you will change the fat profile

BIRTH AND BREASTFEEDING

  • Prepare the birth canal by apply kefir yoghurt or probiotic to the surrounding areas.
  • Breastfeed for at least 1 year.
  • Prepare for possible wet nursing at pre natal groups. use someone you trust not to poison your child.
  • Breastfeed through Mastitis. homeopathy can help

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Stressful events are not harmful to the body. Its our reaction to these stressful events is what’s damaging to the body
  • Mothers expression on thoughts affect her child. A good rule is to always think, “How will this affect my baby?”
  • Sunbathe as much as possible (DO NOT use sun cream and DONT stay out long enough to get burnt)
  • If you get burnt use sour cream, coconut oil, egg white and aloe vera for sunburn NO chemicals.
  • Darker skinned people need more sun.
  • BE POSITIVE ABOUT EVERYTHING!
  • Make your baby a priority
  • Walk in fresh air
  • Sunbathe
  • Have a sense of humour
  • Talk to the baby!
  • Take naps
